Cisco Systems, Inc., a worldwide technology leader has contributed to the Internet evolution since 1984 when Len Bosack, and his wife Sandy Lerner, wanted to email each other from their respective Stanford University offices, but the technology didn’t exist. To solve their challenge, the multiprotocol router was born.

Dedicated to proving “amazing things can happen when you connect the unconnected,” Cisco recognizes open source projects significantly benefit from others’ contributions, integrates open source technologies into many of its products and solutions and demonstrates its commitment to open source as an Open Invention Network (OIN) member.

Headquartered in San Jose, California, Cisco manufactures and distributes Internet Protocol (IP)-based networking and related products from 274 offices in 96 countries. It serves a variety of industries, including communications and Information Technology (IT).
